Dear Members of South Leicester

Hello, Hope you are all well. We are getting into a busy period now that the kids are back at school and we have various events coming up soon such as Halloween, Guy Fawkes night, Diwali, Christmas to name but a few.

Looking at last year’s Burglary stats during this time I hope we can all be well prepared. Currently looking at August stats for our area, Knighton, Freeman Ward and Wigston appear to be the areas of concern.

It is crucial that you secure valuable items such as Jewellery or important documents in a safe. When fitting a safe ensure that it is well hidden and most of all bolted on a concrete wall or floor. Ensure when fitting the safe that the bolts are properly anchored in using long bolts in the ground. This way if a Burglary is to happen and the criminal wants to grab and run if you have an “alarm system” sounding, having a safe bolted to the ground will take more time for the criminal to remove the safe. “Time is Money”. The more obstacles that are in the way, there is less chance for the criminal to get away with your valuables.

I have also seen you can get hidden draws that mimic a plug socket on the wall. I have not personally tested these products but to give you an idea there are various ways to hide your expensive items. Also if you are leaving your home and not taking your vehicle then it makes sense to also take the keys for your car with you to prevent your vehicle being stolen. Just doing simple crime prevention will reduce the loss of your hard earned valuables.

Finally to change the subject slightly there has been a few ASB incidents in Wigston on Frederick Street car park where groups of young people are throwing stones at cars and businesses etc. They have also been several reports of youths on the roof tops. If you are visiting the Wigston area during late afternoon/evenings and witness this Anti-social Behaviour. Please call us on 101 or 999 if a crime is happening.

Stay Safe – If you see something…then say something and Report it!
