I wanted to provide you with an update regarding No issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. TOWN BEAT AND TOWN NORTH UPDATE
This week see’s the start of the School Holidays and in the build-up officers have, amongst other duties, been drawing up plans for increased patrols as historically the next six weeks generally marks an increase in ASB. Town Beat officers along with the Safer streets team in conjunction with the Council ASB team will be targeting hot spot areas in an effort to deal with issues quickly. This can also include follow up actions including exclusion orders from the town centre and tenancy warnings to the parents of repeat offenders. We would respectfully ask parents to be more aware of where their children in general are as recently, we have found ourselves dealing with youth at both late night after dark and early hours of the morning. It seems reasonable to expect parents to know where their children are at 1 o’clock in the morning. In relation to open waters such as the Country Park and local rivers, children need to be made aware of the dangers involved. Drowning can occur within 3-4 minutes and depending where you are, emergency services may be longer to arrive to offer assistance. Finally, for now, the weather and the heatwaves are set to continue and perhaps residents could check on elderly and vulnerable neighbours to make sure they are ok during these blistering spells. Just a friendly door knock perhaps in case they can’t get to the shops for water and basics. For example London statistics are quoting an increase of up to 173 deaths during the recent heatwaves attributable to the heat.
