Alert message sent 24/04/2019 23:03:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members of South Leicester

Hello, hope all is well and you’re having a good Easter break! Unfortunately this past week we have suffered with a few burglaries in our area. There has been a few breaks to local shops where a quantity of cigarettes were stolen. Details as follows:

Burglary on 18/04/2019 at a store on Swinford Avenue, Stonesby Avenue, Welford Road Wigston and on 22/04/19 a Burglary at a store on South Knighton Road in Knighton. Those stores were broken in during the early hours of the morning. So if you were in the area and seen or heard anything then please let us know.

Your local officers have been busy with Op Lionheart which aims to crackdown on Country Lines activity which involves drugs being moved in and out of Leicestershire. You can get more up to date information such as the number of arrests and areas we have covered under the link below.

Furthermore theft from Motor Vehicles is still occurring on us and a common item thats favourite is bank cards that are being left in vehicles. This allows the criminal to go into random stores and make a series of contactless transactions. Contactless does not require any pin code and just requires a swipe of the card, its that easy. The minimum amount that can be purchased via contactless is £30. If this does happen to you please ensure that you do phone the bank to get the card cancelled. Also you will need to obtain details from the bank such as which store and location the transaction occurred, the amount that was purchased and the date/time the transaction occurred. This is so when you do report the theft to us we can then promptly do further work in identifying the suspect.

Lastly we have had some unbelievable weather and hope we can all enjoy it. However please remember to stay safe and remember to close windows of rooms that are not being utilised. A top tip is that most windows do have a locking system that keeps a slight gap between the seal of the window and frame to allow some air to enter your home but the window is still locked. However if you are leaving your home ensure you fully lock the windows fully. For vehicles please ensure that those that allow keyless entry is also secured by a good steering lock. Steering locks can be purchased either online or by your local vehicle accessory store but worth shopping around and visiting such stores for their guidance as well.

Stay Safe
