Urgent message to Rutland NHW Members and residents

Alert message sent 03/04/2019 17:10:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Neighbourhood Watch

Dear Coordinator/Member

I apologise for the error in the previous message I circulated, I have no idea what the problem is/was, so I have simply pasted the attachment below.

Rutland Neighbourhood Watch Association has worked for some twenty years or so to support and promote the Neighbourhood Watch movement in Rutland.  During that time, the Association has provided an important forum for different Watches to meet and a representative voice with the Police, the Police and Crime Commissioner, Rutland County Council and other bodies concerned with tackling crime in Rutland.  It has also introduced several initiatives, foremost amongst which has been the Rutland Community smartphone app, which continues to attract downloads and is regularly followed by over 2500 residents.

In recent years, it has been a struggle to maintain adequate numbers on the Board of Directors.  Despite regular appeals to members at Annual General meetings, the situation has not improved and, with the recent loss of one director and the impending retirement of former Chairman Ruthven Horne, it has now become critical.  Unless fresh recruits are found within the next couple of months, the Board will have no option but to wind up the company.

Before this happens, we are making a last, urgent appeal to you, our Coordinators and members.  We need at least three and preferably one or two more directors to fill the following important positions:

1.  Data Manager: responsibility for the management of the App, the  Rutland NHW Association website and our database of members, including development work, where required;

2.  Police Liaison:  liaison with the Police and input of crime-related information onto the App and website;

3.  Membership Liaison:  liaison with members and clusters, together with recruitment of new watches, leading to wider coverage of the county;

4.  Secretary:  organisation of meetings, correspondence, minutes, etc.

Anyone who is willing to serve in any of the above positions, or who can put us in touch with other parties who might like the opportunity to exercise or revive past skills in some interesting and worthwhile work of unquestionable value to the wider community, is asked to contact Russ Horne ( or Adrian Gombault ( at the earliest opportunity and not later than Sunday 28th April.

Please be assured that it is our intention to continue to maintain the App and website, no matter what the outcome of this appeal may be, and steps have been taken to secure the necessary finance and third-party support for this part of our work at least to continue.  However, the wider aims of the Association, as outlined in our current Mission Statement, cannot possibly be achieved without significant additional human resource at Board level, and it is this we seek to acquire through this appeal.

Yours sincerely

Adrian Gombault and Ruthven Horne,
Directors, Rutland Neighbourhood Watch Association.
