Burbage Police Weekly Crime Update

Bicycles

Ironically I was going to speak about bicycle security this week. Whilst I have been out patrolling I have noticed many bikes left on show in gardens and garages not locked up. Please remember to lock them up, also remind your children/grandchildren to wear bicycle helmets. My Police bike was locked up under CCTV on Brookside whilst I was completing some patrols in the area. It was stolen by 2 suspects in a vehicle described as a dark coloured, 55 plate Ford Mondeo on Sunday 19/04/2020 at around 18:35 and headed towards the Rugby road. If you see a large White Carrera Police bike about anywhere, please call 101 and keep it safe until it can be collected. If you have any information on this please get in touch. I rely on the bike as my form of transport for helping to police Burbage.  Thank you.

Again this week during the Coronavirus situation, excluding the above, our crime figures in Burbage for residential Burglary and vehicle crime are very good. Please continue to be vigilant as other areas of Leicestershire are suffering some vehicle crime.

Patrols

We have been patrolling the area and have spoken to residents where we have found house/car keys left in doors, or bags and high value items left on show in vehicles. Please stay mindful of this as there are lots more people walking around so you never know who is about. Please also remember to lock garden gates, use driveway bollards and use steering locks as we have had issues with vehicle crime in other areas of Leicestershire.

Patrols include Solo one allotment area off Brookside, all parks to assist in ensuring COVID-19 guidelines are being followed, local shops, businesses and several areas that have been raised by residents due to suspicious behaviour. These patrols will be ongoing.

Ongoing scams

I have had a report of a scam where a text message is sent regarding payment to O2. This is just one of many scams going around at the moment. There are also scams involving Coronavirus so please continue to be mindful and look out for your neighbours. Ensure you report anything suspicious online or to 101. You can also visit https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ for more information.

Domestic Abuse

I have been visiting local shops to put up posters regarding Domestic Abuse during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have attached the leaflet for you to have a look at but hopefully anyone needing support will be able to get it if needed. The contact numbers are,

United Against Violence and Abuse (UAVA) 08088020028 www.uava.org.uk

National Domestic Abuse Helpline 08082000247 (Freephone 24hrs) www.refuge.org.uk

For children or young person’s call ChildLine on 08001111

Whilst out doing my patrols I have received some really nice comments from residents. I would like to say thank you to many of you who make the job a pleasure. Please continue to follow the guidelines and keep safe. Thank you.

Please feel free to share, reply, rate or print.

Kind regards,

Darren.
