Burbage Beat Team SCAMS

Alert message sent 21/03/2020 08:01:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Please be mindful of scams via phone calls and post. Criminals will try and target elderly and vulnerable residents and all of us that may be spending a bit more time at home.

I have received a recent report from a resident in Burbage of a postal scam where a letter has been delivered from “INTERNATIONAL FIFA WORLD CUP ONLINE LOTTERY” claiming they had won a prize.
This is just one example of the types of scams that can happen, not just now but ongoing.

To protect yourself PLEASE remember a few key points,

*Keep a look out for your neighbours and report anything suspicious.
*NEVER give your bank details, PIN or password to anyone over the phone.
*NEVER give cash or your bank card to a stranger even if they are seemingly doing a good deed.
*DO NOT click on links or attachments in suspicious Emails.
*If you are buying off the Internet, check the seller and reviews before you purchase.
*DON’T BE TO POLITE to hang up if you are unsure who is calling you, look into call blockers from your provider.
*Before committing to work from a trader or high value purchases, speak to a family member or friend for advice.
*If it is too good to be true, it probably is!

We have more advice and leaflets at the office so get in touch if I can help further. You can also visit for more information.

Kind regards,
