Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Good evening
Regionally we are still experiencing the theft of Catalytic converters especially from Toyota electric cars as well as Mercedes Vans . Although its really difficult to prevent this type of offence if you own such vehicles , please consider where you park your vehicle and should you see anything suspicious please please call the police and let us know . We have such success when members of the public call us , if it doesn't feel right it probably isn't , this gives us a real head start if you make the call .

During the festive period I have seen a rise in the number of fraud related offences in particular criminals targeting primarily elderly people and claiming to be from the bank . There has been a scam going around where by a call is made and the criminals persuade the recipient to purchase vouchers over the phone in order to get access to far more .
My message is really clear , if you get a call from someone saying they are from the bank DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION AT ALL AND PUT THE PHONE DOWN .
The banks will not cold call you , criminals will and they will play the numbers game , all they need is for one person to fall for the scam and they can make a great deal of money . Please speak to anyone locally who you think may be vulnerable to such fraud , I think anyone can become a victim to this , not just the elderly , lets ensure the criminals don't get the chance to exploit people in Charnwood .

Theft from vehicles is still a regional issue , other police areas in Leicestershire and Rutland suffer far more than Charnwood however lets not get complacent . Please remove all valuables from sight , consider where you park your car at night and again anything that looks wrong in the street give us a call . Now is a good time to review your home security , I appreciate things cost money but if you have a security light that doesn't have a bulb or you have a job to do that you keep putting off please get it done . Criminals operate well in darkness , lets limit their opportunities .

That said overall crime in Charnwood is down , this is a really safe borough to live and work in and Im really proud of the hard work that my team do , as well as partners from Charnwood Borough Council .
Please don't use this forum to report crime , 101 or 999 or on line if the query isn't pressing .

Id like to wish you all a peaceful Christmas and thanks for the ongoing support .
Mark
