Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members

Further to my last message I sent out with the attachment containing information on where advice and guidance can be obtained online in relation to protective security steps. Please see below message containing C/Supt Adam Streets message relating to the New Zealand and recent Birmingham incidents. Apologies for not adding this in the earlier message I previously sent.

Dear All

As we approach the one week anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack in New Zealand I wanted to take a moment to reassure you that increased patrols will continue in your local community. I again stress that this is not in relation to any specific information or intelligence that the local threat level has changed.

However I am aware of the media reporting on a number of confirmed acts of vandalism which appear to have been targeted at Mosques in Birmingham in the early hours of this morning where windows were targeted. I can’t comment on the West Midlands Police investigation other than that their Chief Constable has confirmed that “the force and the Counter Terrorism Unit are working side by side to find whoever is responsible” and that they are treating them as a “Hate Crime”.

Whilst here in Leicestershire I am pleased to say we have not seen such acts replicated I am committed to ensuring that an increased policing presence is felt by our communities and as such additional patrols will continue over the coming week. In fact I have not long come from a planning meeting with your local Neighbourhood Policing Commanders to ensure just that.

We must remain united and if you do have any local concerns please make contact with your dedicated local neighbourhood teams or your local station commander. Please also find enclosed UK Protect advice to faith communities.

Kind Regards

Ch Supt Adam Streets
Head of Local Policing Directorate
