Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members of South Leicester

Hello, Hope you all are well. It has come to my attention that vehicle crime is on the rise again. I have checked stats for the last 7 days and shows that Aylestone and Eyres Monsell appears to be the highest hit area of Theft from Motor Vehicles.

Stats for Vehicle Crime that has been reported to us in the last 7 days.

Aylestone - 10

Freeman Saffron Est - 3

Eyres Monsell - 8

Wigston - 4

Knighton - 7

Oadby - 3

I have seen a post on Facebook where there was mention in the area of Whetstone a number of men were disturbed using scanners through peoples letter boxes to be able to obtain car codes to steal vehicles. Please ensure that your wireless keys are removed in the area of your main door. Ideally keys should be kept in a container that can block signal hackers. Keeping keys in a locked container can also stop anyone trying to fish the keys from your letter box. The most effective way to stop your vehicle being stolen is to purchase a steering lock. I know these locks are bulky and ugly looking but this will certainly deter criminals. Steering locks can be purchased for under £10 on the Internet which is really nothing if you compare the problems you will face having your car actually stolen so it’s worth it!

#OpBehold is still going strong! Officers are conducting patrols in your area. Please ensure that if you do see anything suspicious that you call us on 101. If you feel that either life or property is in danger or you believe a crime is going to take place then call 999. It’s about using your judgement and common sense to call 999 as I know some may feel a bit reluctant at times. We want people to feel confident in calling us as together we can make a difference.

Halloween is just around the corner so please see attached “Say No or Yes to Trick or Treaters”. Your local beat team has spoken to local schools and they are aware of this poster. Please print the page you wish and display it outside so it can be viewed. Please could you also show your young ones to ensure they understand when they do go out for Trick or Treating. Also if you can remind your young ones that local shops have been advised regarding the sale of Egg and Flour will not be sold to under 18's during the time.

Hope this helps.

Stay Safe.
