Speed Checks in Oadby by your Local Beat Team

Alert message sent 29/09/2018 21:11:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members of Oadby,

Hello, hope your fine. I have been informed that your local beat team did recent speed checks on Stoughton Drive South and Manor Road in Oadby. Results as below......

Stoughton Drive South
Number of Vehicles Checked - 296
Number of vehicles not wearing seat belts - 9
Number of vehicles between 35-40mph - 20
Number of vehicles over 40mph - 2
Manor Road
Number of Vehicles Checked - 60
Number of vehicles not wearing seat belts - 1
Number of vehicles between 35-40mph - 12
Number of vehicles over 40mph - 7

It shows that majority of drivers are sticking to the limits so thank you for your support. However please remember that the speed limits are there for a reason. The above roads are in built up areas and are very busy due to the universities and many students use these roads on foot. There are also trees which could obstruct view to other vehicles or pedestrians.
  • Remember Keep to the Speed limit - Top Tip If you have 'cruise control' on your vehicle set your vehicle speed to 30MPH and lock it on that speed so you know you are not breaking the limit.
  • Wear your seat belts inc passengers.
  • Ensure you have your lights on during darker hours. I have seen many people driving with no lights on vehicles that mostly have the "Day running Lights". These LED lights are permanently on and to improve visual during the day. However during the night it may look like you have switched on your lights and the driver may forget to actually turn them on. With only the day lights running the rear of your vehicle will not have your back lights on so please be careful if your vehicle has this feature.
  • The most obvious is "Do not use your mobile phone whilst driving". If you need to use your phone you need to purchase an approved handsfree kit that will allow you to take the call without any distractions and not having your hands off the wheel.
Please Drive Carefully and Stay Safe!
