Good Morning We have seen two reports of residential burglaries and several reports of suspicious behaviour on the Fairfield Estate over the weekend. Large windows and patio doors are particularly vulnerable, especially at the rear of properties when in darkness. We recomend you use simple vibration alarms as pictured for an additional layer of security in case windows are smashed or tampered with. They are available through most online retailers, or ask your local beat team for more information.
Whilst we have been working hard to reduce burglaries in South Wigston this year, and have seen a notable reduction so far, we must remain vigilant through the darker months and do everything we can to stop burglars in their tracks. Look out for vulnerable or lone neighbours and empty properties, and with these 5 steps we can greatly reduce the risk of becoming a victim:
SECURE your home, lock away valuables and remove car keys from easy reach. Use deadbolts and sash jammers on vulnerable doors. LIGHT up entry ways, use motion lights and ensure your home is never left in darkness. ALARM your property, make sure your burglar alarm is functioning and set, and use simple window and door vibration alarms (anything with the 'Secure By Design' logo). CCTV will help to deter some offenders, but don't rely on it alone. KNOWLEGE is power, share any and all pertinent information locally and with the police.
We will continue to patrol the estate as much as possible and provide advice, reasurance and security equipment to those who need it most, but we cannot stop burglars alone - Let's work together to reduce burglaries in South Wigston.
