🌙 Darker Nights Community Safety Message

As the darker evenings are now with us, it's a good time to take a few simple steps to keep yourself, your family, and your home safe.

🏡 Help protect your home by:

Locking all doors and windows, even when you're at home.

Leaving a light on when you're out, or using timer switches to make your home look occupied.

Keeping keys, handbags and valuables out of sight and away from doors and windows.

Do not leave valuables on show, including in your vehicle. As little as loose change in your car may seem to you, somebody desperate enough will break in for it.

If you have a keyless car, putting the keys away from the front of the property and in a signal blocker wallet is recommended.

Ensuring gates, sheds and garages are secure.

Installing or checking that security lighting, cameras or alarms are working properly. Burglars do not want to make noise or be seen, make your home noisy and well lit if they were to gain entry.

🚶 When out and about:

Stick to well-lit routes where possible.

Let someone know your plans if travelling alone. Including sharing location with a trusted friend or family member.

Stay aware of your surroundings and keep valuables out of sight.

👀 We all play a part in keeping our communities safe. If you see anything suspicious or out of place, please report it.
