South Wigston Burglary Update/Info

Last year you highlighted residential burglary as a top priority - we listened!

This year we have been implementing a multi-stage plan to reduce burglaries in South Wigston. Working with partner agencies, local businesses and you (our fantastic community) we have been working hard to cut the number of burglaries in South Wigston - and whilst the year is not over yet, we are making very good progress. 
We look forward to sharing more information with you as the year draws to a close!

Now though, with darker nights drawing in, it is a good time to think about protecting your property in a few simple steps:
 

 Security  - Lock all doors and windows. Use security chains, deadbolts and sash jammers where you can. Leave valuables out of sight and in a safe place (in a safe if you have one). Leave car keys well out of sight and in a faraday bag if they are keyless. 
 

Lighting - Make your home look lived in. Leave lights on when out and use automatic timers where you can. Install motion activated floodlighting outside, especially near access points.

Alarms - If you have a burglar alarm fitted, make sure it works and set it when you are out or in bed. Use simple, inexpensive window and door alarms at access points for an additional layer of security.
 

CCTV - Once you have considered the above points, consider installing cameras and/or video doorbells to act as a deterrent and to gather evidence or intelligence if your home is targeted.
 

Knowledge - Share security advice with others. Share information and concerns on local social media groups or forums. Share concerns or anything suspicious with the police.

We will be running a drop-in session on 19th October - 7pm - Fairfield pub car park - to provide advice and equipment 

(We will aim to bring faraday pouches, vibration alarms and DNA marking kits - Limited availability - We will prioritise vulnerable or lone resident households)

We will continue both high-visibility and plain-clothes patrols through the darker months and we look forward to sharing more information with you at the end of the year.
