๐จ Talk to Teens About Spiking ๐จ Spiking is when someone gives another person alcohol or drugs without their knowledge or consent. This can happen by adding substances to a drink, using a needle, or even by giving someone a stronger drink than they expected, such as a double measure instead of a single. โ Anyone can be a victim of spiking It doesn't matter your age, gender, sexuality or ethnicity. Spiking can be carried out by strangers or even by people you know. โ๏ธ Spiking is a serious crime Those found guilty can face up to 10 years in prison, with even longer sentences possible if other offences, such as robbery or sexual assault, are involved. ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆParents and carers: start the conversation Talking about spiking may feel uncomfortable, but having open and honest conversations with teenagers can help them understand the risks, recognise warning signs, and know what to do if they or a friend need help. โ
Encourage them to: โข Never leave drinks unattended ๐ If someone is in immediate danger, unwell, or needs urgent help, call 999. Let's work together to keep our young people safe and informed. #SpikingAwareness #StaySafe #LookOutForEachOther #CommunitySafety #TeenSafety #ProtectOurYoungPeople #PoliceAdvice
