Westcotes Neighbourhood Policing Team – Weekly Update 

Hello everyone,

We wanted to provide you with an update on some of the work the Westcotes Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out across the area over the past week.

Our officers and PCSOs have continued to conduct patrols, respond to incidents, engage with residents and businesses, and carry out proactive work to address local concerns.

Vehicle seized – Andrew Street

Officers attended Andrew Street where a vehicle was identified as being of interest in relation to DVLA requirements. The vehicle was subsequently seized in accordance with the relevant legislation.

Stolen vehicle recovered

Whilst out on patrol, officers identified and recovered a vehicle which had previously been reported stolen. The vehicle was dealt with and appropriate enquiries have been undertaken.

Potentially stolen bike recovered

During patrols in the Westcotes area, officers recovered a bicycle which was believed to potentially be stolen.

Wanted male located

Officers located and dealt with a male who was wanted in connection with a series of offences. Appropriate action was taken.

Engagement with residents

A key part of our neighbourhood policing work is speaking with the people who live, work and study in Westcotes.

Throughout the week, officers have spent time engaging with residents, listening to concerns, providing advice and reassurance, and gathering information about issues affecting the local community.

Your information is extremely valuable to us and can help shape where and when we conduct our patrols.

BikeRegister event – Great Central Way

The team attended a BikeRegister event on Great Central Way, engaging with cyclists and members of the local community.

The event provided an opportunity to discuss bike security, crime prevention and the importance of registering bicycles. Having your bike registered can assist police in identifying and returning it to its rightful owner if it is later recovered.

Student accommodation visits

With the new academic year underway, officers visited local student accommodation to meet with students and provide support and reassurance to those who are new to the area.

We spoke with students about staying safe, looking after their belongings and reporting concerns. These visits also give us an opportunity to build positive relationships with students and ensure they know how to contact the police and access support should they need it.

Safeguarding

Officers attended an incident where a woman was identified as requiring safeguarding support.

Appropriate safeguarding measures were put in place, with officers working to ensure her welfare and safety. Where necessary, we work closely with partner agencies to provide appropriate ongoing support to vulnerable members of our community.

CCTV enquiries

Officers have been conducting CCTV enquiries and gathering evidence from relevant locations.

CCTV can be extremely valuable in helping us establish what happened, identify individuals and progress investigations. We would like to thank residents and businesses who assist us with CCTV enquiries when requested.

Abandoned vehicle removed

A vehicle reported as abandoned was assessed and, following the appropriate checks and process, was subsequently removed from the area.

We continue to respond to reports of abandoned vehicles and assess them based on the circumstances and information available.

Working with our community

Our neighbourhood policing work isn't just about responding to incidents. A significant part of what we do is being visible, listening to residents, preventing crime and working with our communities and partner agencies to address local concerns.

We will continue to patrol across Westcotes and focus our activity on the issues that matter to local residents.
