Burbage Police. Parking Again, Vehicle Seized. E-Scooters, Tools And Social Media Purchases.

We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage this week. We have added the new “no trick or treat” poster as an attachment which should be at the bottom of this email. May be a little bit early but feel free to share and print off for any neighbours or friends. 

Reported Crime and Appeals

Report of a burglary to a business on Sketchley Meadows industrial estate between the 10th and 11th of September. Items such as tools were taken. There have been several reports over recent weeks from Sketchley meadows industrial estate. Please be mindful of this if you own a business or store tools/equipment. We are completing work/patrols in the area. 

Since our last report on the 7th, we have received 27 calls to Police which include 2 emergency and 6 priority calls. Calls include domestic, transport and Police related activity. 

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

We have been completing more work around youths on E-Scooters, and we are planning in a few assemblies with Hastings High school over the coming weeks to remind children that E-scooters are illegal, and to ensure parents are aware of this as we head towards Christmas. 

Following ongoing local complaints, we have visited Lychgate lane and seized a vehicle due to no tax, seconds away from seizing a second but the keeper arrived, and we managed to deal with the situation without seizing the vehicle. We continue to investigate and challenge ongoing abandoned vehicles, no tax and dangerous parking around this area. We will also be working with HBBC to implement any outcomes if residents or businesses are found to be using Burbage as a giant car park. The road was closed for around 30 minutes so apologies for any inconvenience. 

Other work this week includes mediation regarding neighbour disputes along with concerns of road safety, dealing/checking into reports of suspicious vehicles and we have also spent a lot of time visiting local businesses/owners of vans (tools) where we have supported with crime reduction measures. Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Please be mindful around purchasing items on social media. We have been contacted this week regarding someone attending their address thinking they had purchased a dog from them. Unfortunately, it appears these people had been scammed. This article is probably worth a read, certainly regarding pet sales  Stop buying pets off social media | but please be cautious around other types of sales and purchases on social media platforms as over the years, we have heard all sorts of stories where residents have been scammed as buyers and sellers.
