☀️School Holiday Safety Advice from Your Local Police Beat Team☀️

As the school holidays are now underway, we would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break. With children and young people spending more time outdoors and away from their usual routines, we would like to share some simple safety advice to help keep our communities safe.

Staying Safe Outdoors

Always let a parent, guardian or trusted adult know where you are going and when you expect to return.

Stay with friends where possible and avoid isolated areas, particularly in the evening.

Be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts if a situation does not feel right.

Carry a charged mobile phone if available and know how to contact emergency services if needed.

Road Safety

Take extra care when crossing roads and avoid distractions such as mobile phones and headphones.

Wear helmets and appropriate safety equipment when cycling, skateboarding or using scooters.

Parents are reminded to ensure children understand basic road safety principles before going out independently.

Online Safety

Be cautious when chatting with people online and never agree to meet someone you have only spoken to over the internet without a trusted adult's knowledge.

Avoid sharing personal information, including your address, school, or location.

Report any suspicious or inappropriate online activity to a parent, guardian, or the relevant platform.

Protecting Personal Property

Keep bikes, scooters and other valuables secure when not in use.

Consider using locks and recording serial numbers or property markings.

Do not leave valuables unattended in parks, public spaces, or vehicles.

Water Safety

Only swim in supervised and designated swimming areas.

Never enter rivers, lakes, canals, or reservoirs where it is unsafe to do so.

Young people should always be supervised around water, regardless of their ability to swim.

Respecting Our Communities

Please be mindful of local residents and avoid behaviour that may cause nuisance or alarm.

Respect local parks, play areas and community facilities by disposing of litter responsibly.

Report any incidents of antisocial behaviour to the police using the appropriate reporting channels.
