Westcotes Policing Team Weekly Update
This week has seen a significant amount of proactive work carried out by your neighbourhood policing team, focusing on community engagement, tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, and keeping our roads and public spaces safe.
Our Inspector and Sergeant have spent time out on the beat speaking directly with local businesses and residents. These conversations are invaluable in helping us understand the issues that matter most to our communities, identify emerging concerns, and provide reassurance where it is needed. Visible policing remains one of the most effective ways of building trust and preventing crime.
Over the weekend, officers attended the Riverside Festival, engaging with attendees, organisers and local partners throughout the event. Large community events provide an excellent opportunity for us to meet residents in a positive setting, offer crime prevention advice and ensure everyone can enjoy local events safely.
We were also pleased to successfully locate and arrest an individual who was wanted on warrant.
Addressing anti-social behaviour continues to be a key priority. This week, our Sergeant worked alongside colleagues from the local council to address concerns raised by residents. By working together and sharing information, we can identify problem areas, develop long-term solutions and improve the quality of life for those affected by persistent anti-social behaviour.
Our proactive patrols also resulted in two untaxed vehicles being seized. Vehicles that are not taxed are often linked to wider offending and can pose risks to other road users. Taking enforcement action helps ensure our roads remain safe and that vehicle owners comply with their legal responsibilities.
Supporting our student community has also been a focus this week. Officers conducted a Student Safety Hub at Student Roost, speaking with students about personal safety, responsible drinking, and staying safe on nights out. Providing practical advice and building relationships with students helps them make informed decisions and reduces their vulnerability to becoming victims of crime.
These activities are just a snapshot of the work carried out by your neighbourhood team over the past week. Every engagement, patrol, arrest and partnership initiative contributes towards making our communities safer, stronger and more resilient.
Thank you to everyone who continues to speak with us, report concerns and support our work. Your information and feedback play a vital role in helping us tackle local issues and keep our neighbourhoods safe.
