We hope you are keeping well and have a relaxing Easter break. Below is our monthly Newsletter for April. Our crime reduction catalogue is also attached to this email.
Over the next week of so, you may receive a request to complete a confidence survey, it would be very much appreciated if you could complete that survey as it really helps us locally regarding resident feedback.
We have visited Burbage Jnr's/infants to complete some patrols due to complaints from residents around parking issues. Concerns around double parking, parking on junctions and double yellow lines. We continue to work in the area and with all local schools to keep school areas safe.
Areas such as Grove Road, Grove Park, Grosvenor Crescent and Love lane visited. Also had a good chat with the lollypop lady to link in with ongoing concerns. Spoke to lots of parents and children in the area.
If you wish to register your valuables for FREE and improve your chances of getting them back if lost of stolen, you can do so via this link
Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Burbage. Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and prioritised the following: Below are our new priorities which we will be actioning this month. Below are our new priorities for the next few months.
Priority 1: Burglary
You Said – Burglaries of homes continue to be a concern in the area, this coupled with the fact that Easter and Spring half term will see people going away leaving their homes empty and an opportunity for criminals to take advantage presents a real risk for our community.
Priority 2: Anti-social Behaviour
You Said – Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) around local parks and streets in Burbage is a cause for concern, you noted incidents of cannabis/drug use, assault, bullying, criminal damage and general rowdiness. Concerns are that with the Easter holidays and other school breaks approaching young people will have more time on their hands and the warmer weather and lighter nights will encourage more people out that is likely to lead to wider ASB issues.
Priority 3: Vehicle Crime
You Said – Theft of tools from vans and theft of high powered/high end motor cars are crimes that our community have raised as a continued concern. As the weather improves, windows being left open present opportunities.
#WeDid - What we are doing
Burglary - Residential Burglaries will remain a priority for the next 3 months. Your local community team will be working hard to raise awareness with residents on the need to take steps prior to holidays to ensure your home appears lived in. The use of light times and support from friends and neighbours to ensure tell-tale signs like bins being left out for protracted periods or post building up are not an invitation to criminals to take advantage. Where offences are reported local officers will work closely with the detectives to ensure that community intelligence and CCTV opportunities are maximised to provide the greatest opportunities of identifying the offenders. We will ensure that our patrol plan ensures that officers patrol the right places at the right time maximising our opportunities to disrupt and catch offenders. During March, reports of residential burglary were very low, but we continue to offer crime reduction support and prepare for historical times of the year where these types of crime can increase. Please hide/remove items such as jewellery and ensure vehicles are secure before you go on holiday. Please consider home alarms, steering wheel locks and ensure someone you trust is checking on your property.
Anti-social Behaviour – We have recognised the concerns of the community and have made it our priority to tackle this issue. We have lots planned on the run up to the Easter break which will include assemblies to be held at Hastings High School discussing what ASB, the impact it has on the community and the consequences if caught by police. We would encourage local residents to report issues to us and share information and CCTV, we have an excellent information sharing system with the school that will continue over the holidays and enables prompt identification of perpetrators. Over the coming weeks, we intend to increase our patrols in the area, use social media to engage with the community on this issue and actively target individuals identified as being involved. During March, where the weather has improved, we have seen an increase in isolated incidents involving youths. We have identified those involved and dealt with at an early stage. Targeted patrols conducted and ongoing. If you are a victim of this type of crime, please report immediately and provide any evidence you have as this will really support us in challenging behaviour and preventing further issues.
Vehicle Crime - Over the coming months we seek to increase awareness across the community of things they can do or consider to prevent them becoming a victim of this type of crime, this will include several social media messages and crime safety events being held across the beat. Our patrols targeting this type of offending will continue and where offences occur, local officers will seek to support the investigators by visiting the areas and looking at CCTV and other evidential opportunities to maximise the likelihood of identifying an offender. During March, we saw a slight increase in reports of vehicle crime, although figures remain low. It was not the usual keyless/high value crime we historically see, more targeted at lower value but easy targets. Leaving high value items in your vehicle can also make your vehicle a target for vehicle theft. Regardless of the cost or type of your vehicle, please ensure it is parked near your property, no valuable items left in it and please use steering locks and trackers if possible. Leave vehicles in well lit areas where they are covered by CCTV if possible.
