St James Road – Community Safety UpdateOur work on St James Road continues to progress positively. This month, we held a further meeting with local councillors and the Community Safety Team to discuss ongoing issues and next steps. During this meeting, it was agreed that funding from the Stoneygate Ward would be made available to purchase a third temporary pod camera, dedicated solely for use within the ward. This is a significant boost for Stoneygate, which will soon own three cameras that will remain permanently within the ward. Many neighbouring wards do not have their own dedicated cameras and often find themselves competing for limited resources. Stoneygate’s growing ability to deploy its own equipment places the ward in a much stronger position to tackle local concerns quickly and effectively. Since deploying the two existing ward-owned cameras on Abingdon Road and Evington Road, we have already seen a noticeable reduction in crime and antisocial behaviour, highlighting just how valuable these tools are for community safety. Next StepsThe next priority is to begin resident consultations on St James Road. These will ensure that local residents are: We hope to provide an update in next month’s newsletter confirming the installation of the new camera on St James Road. Ongoing Patrol ActivityWhile this work continues, officers will maintain regular uniform and plain‑clothes patrols in the area, speaking with individuals causing harm and, where grounds exist, making use of stop and search powers to safeguard the community.
Community Safety Update: Slate Street EncampmentOver the past month, local officers became aware of a growing street encampment on Slate Street, where several tents had been set up and individuals were sleeping rough. Alongside this, residents reported an increase in drug use taking place near the site. Our team engaged directly with those living in the encampment to ensure they received the appropriate support. This included advice on housing options and access to any additional services they required. Once support had been offered and individuals had safely moved on, a significant amount of abandoned tents and rubbish remained in the area. The City Warden Team were contacted promptly, and all waste has now been removed, helping restore the street to a clean and safe condition. Officers continue to carry out routine patrols—both in uniform and in plain clothes—to deter drug-related activity and target individuals using the area to deal drugs. These patrols will remain ongoing to help keep Slate Street and the surrounding neighbourhood safe. If you have any concerns or would like to report suspicious behaviour, please continue to contact us. Your information plays an important role in keeping our community secure.
Stoneygate Ward Community Update: Road Safety and Community EngagementPC Woolley has continued his proactive work on social media, providing Stoneygate residents with regular updates and advice on parking around Evington Road, as well as addressing general road safety concerns raised by the community. Despite these efforts, some motorists continue to ignore the guidance provided. As a result, PC Woolley has been out in the area issuing enforcement tickets to those who persist in parking irresponsibly, reaffirming our commitment to keeping local roads safe for everyone. Alongside this, PCSO Akhtar and PS Brown have begun attending local mosques to seek support in managing the increased traffic seen during Ramadan. Their goal is to encourage respectful and considerate parking during this busy period to reduce disruption to the surrounding neighbourhood. This initiative has been warmly welcomed by local Imams, who are eager to play a positive role within the community during this peak time of activity. Looking ahead, PCSO Akhtar is planning to coordinate joint operations with parking enforcement officers and nearby schools. The aim is to promote safer parking practices and protect children during the busy school drop‑off and pick‑up times—times when cars are often left in dangerous or inconsiderate positions. By combining education with visible joint patrols, PCSO Akhtar hopes to shift the parking culture around schools and create a safer environment for pupils, families, and motorists alike. The Stoneygate policing team remains committed to working in partnership with residents, faith groups, schools, and enforcement agencies to keep our area safe, respectful, and community‑focused.
