Hello Resident,
We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage over recent days. This is a bit of a longer message but there are some important concerns to pass on to you, so grab a drink.
Reported Crime and Appeals
Report of 5 youths (2 girls and 3 boys) who have kicked a front door and thrown eggs at a property on Balliol Road (near Sunnyhill South) on Saturday 17th of January at around 14:30. If you have any CCTV in the area that shows a group matching this description, please drop me an email so we can identify those involved. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
Report of rogue traders on Tuesday 20th, in the afternoon, on the Herald way Estate, where rogue traders have cold called at a property telling them the roof was in a critical state and quoted £18500 to repair the front of a roof. They insisted on two deposits and used a card reader to take payment. Thankfully, a family member has visited and intervened, telling the traders to stop work. Work is ongoing with the bank to get the transaction blocked. If you saw any work being completed around Herald Way such as roof repair/scaffolding on Tuesday and Wednesday and have vehicle details, please drop me an email.
Most of us probably think we would never be a victim of a scam like this, but it can happen to anyone of any age. In Burbage, we have had people of all ages fall victim to all types of scams, from online banking to cold calling. Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement
Whilst completing patrols, officers completed a vehicle stop near Meadow Drive on the 21/01/2026 at around 17:00. As a result, the vehicle was seized due to disqualified driver, and one person arrested.
We have been continuing with our patrols around local schools. Today, we patrolled Burbage infants and Juniors. As a result, we spoke to multiple parents and issued 2 fixed penalty notices. It is not something we hope to do, but following years of work, patrols and educating motorists, we now have the powers to issue these penalties. Parking on Zig Zags and double yellow lines on junctions, outside schools is not acceptable. This type of parking causes a lot of issues with children crossing and other vehicles driving through the area. We also had some great feedback from parents who were fed up with some of the parking they have been seeing in the area. We hope that issuing these tickets will change behaviours around schools going forward. The majority of vehicle related issues we get notified of tend to relate to road rage, impatience and general lack of self-awareness. As a resident has recently said, be kind and courteous when driving around Burbage.
We have sent out the below email via parent mail with the support of local schools. Hastings High, Sketchley Primary and Burbage inf/Jnrs have sent this out to all parents, so there is no excuse for bad, and irresponsible parking.
Parking and Road Safety Around the School “We have received an increasing number of concerns regarding unsafe and inconsiderate parking in the vicinity of the school. Such behaviour places children, pedestrians, and other road users at risk. We are actively working with partner agencies to identify and implement solutions that will help make the surrounding roads safer for everyone.
While the Police, schools, and partner organisations continue to take steps to maintain safety, we would like to remind all parents, carers, and visitors that they also share responsibility for ensuring the safety of children in the area.
Common issues raised include vehicles being parked on or opposite junctions, blocking residents’ driveways, double parking, and parking on pavements near the school. These actions are not only inconsiderate but also hazardous, particularly during busy drop-off and pick-up times. There have also been reports of conflicts between motorists and local residents, as well as instances of verbal abuse directed at school crossing patrol staff. Such behaviour is unacceptable and undermines the community spirit we are working hard to maintain.
Although parking in Burbage is limited, we have supported alternative arrangements such as the use of the Sketchley Grange Hotel car park. We continue to appeal for greater consideration towards residents and the safety of young children leaving the school. Our patrols will also continue to speak with drivers and make follow‑up enquiries where evidence of unsafe parking or driving is provided.
There is no single, simple solution to this ongoing issue. However, our priority is, and must remain, the safety of everyone in the area — particularly the children. We hope that this is also your priority.
Please be aware that vehicles found to be uninsured or driven without a valid licence may be seized on the spot. Recovery, storage fees, and any associated penalties or court fines must be paid before the vehicle is released. Other offences include: We want our school areas to remain safe and welcoming places for children, residents, and all visitors. We ask everyone to play their part in keeping the area safe and incident‑free. If you are unsure about where you can and cannot park, please refer to the Highway Code guidance on waiting and parking:”
