Antisocial Behaviour - A Positive Update |
||
|
Good morning
Antisocial behaviour (ASB) takes many forms but disrespectful youths with no regard for other peoples' safety or property have been a blight on South Wigston for quite some time!
I am proud to say that the South Wigston beat team worked hard through 2024 and 2025 with partner agencies to tackle ASB and reduce its impact on the wider community. With a combination of a stronger approach to first-time or low-level offenders, a crackdown on prolific offenders and more engagement opportunities for local youths we have seen a 31% decrease overall in reports of ASB and a 41% decrease during the peak 6 month period of March-September.
What we did: -Worked closely with partner agencies including Oadby & Wigston Borough Council to identify and monitor offenders -Visit local schools to discuss the severity of ASB and its consequences -Local Authority introduced youth programs in the summer including Soft Touch Arts and sport with the Leicester Riders basketball team -Issue more ASB warnings, Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, Community Resolutions, a Community Protection Warning and even pursued two lengthy Civil Injunction cases against the worst offenders. -Worked with a local housing association to obtain injunctions and a closure order on a nuisance address resulting in an offender being forced from the area -Issued several 'Section 59' warnings to drivers and their vehicles seen driving carelessly or inconsiderately in the area -Seized and crushed multiple illegal off road motorcycles or modified e-bikes -Developed intelligence around illegal car cruising to stop them occurring in South Wigston
These steps saw 118 reports in 2024 reduce to 81 in 2025, with an average of 12 per month during the peak season drop to an average of 7**
Our work is not done, we will continue our efforts to see a further reduction in ASB in South Wigston and ensure all residents can enjoy their time, their homes and their community in peace.
Thank you for your continued support
