One report received from Sketchley Meadows industrial estate of a break to a unit on the 30th of December at around 20:30. Unknown items taken at this time but please be mindful around business breaks and leaving cash or valuable items unmonitored.
Since the 29th of December, we have received 29 calls to Police. Calls mainly related to domestic issues and a few drug and suspicious activity reports.
Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement
A 34-year-old man has been charged with several offences following a burglary in Burbage. Jamie Yates has been charged with two counts of burglary dwelling and theft, one count of taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, one count of theft from a motor vehicle, one count of driving a motor vehicle otherwise in accordance with a licence, one count of using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance, one count of failing to provide a specimen for analysis and one count of possession of a class A drug – crack cocaine. The charges relate to an incident in Higham Way on 21 December. Yates, of no fixed address, appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on the 23rd of December and is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on the 9th of February.
In other news, following some feedback from residents, patrols were completed around the Bridge Road area of Burbage. As a result, a male was stop searched and arrested following the discovery of a large amount of class A drugs.
A male was also arrested on Church Street when officers happened to drive past an oddly parked vehicle at 00:40 on the 1st of January. He was arrested on suspicion of sec 4 RTA unfit through drink or drugs, since charged with failing to provide.
Crime prevention and issues to be aware of
We have been completing evening and late-night patrols around areas raised as concerns including Brookside allotments, East Close, Farm Road, Higham Way and the three Pots Area, but please consider home security and vehicle security as we enter January. Vehicle related crime can increase during January, especially keyless and high value/high performance vehicles. Ensure you have RFID wallets, use steering locks and consider your home security.
We will be completing some targeted patrols around school areas when they re-open to support with road safety, but we ask that all parents and guardians to be considerate and drive/park safely so we can all have a good start to the year. Thank you and take care.
