Good afternoon all, Here is some crime prevention advice from the beat team over the festive period! The festive period is approaching very quickly and we want you all to stay safe and have a jolly time celebrating safely with friends and family. While at home here is some advice we can offer: Lock windows and doors while you are in and out of the house. As we have been patrolling the beat it is looking very festive with lights and Christmas trees in windows. Keeping presents out of sight will deter opportunistic criminalsUsing timers while it is dark for lights is a great way for your house to look occupied. We also give out free timers if you attend any of the beat surgeries!Asking a neighbor or family member to keep an eye on your house if you are away is also helpful!Out and about: Never leave valuables obviously visible in your car. While patrolling the beat I have noticed people leaving items on the front seats of vehicles and have popped leaflets on cars. While shopping or going away for a period of time keeping your car parked in well lit areas is also a good idea.Online shopping: There is always a spike in scams over the festive period due to the number of people ordering gifts online, make sure to stay vigilant and if something doesn't look quite right or is too good to be true it probably is!Going out and socialising: The Christmas period is where work groups, friends and family often go out to celebrate.Keep an eye on friends and family due to everywhere being more crowded as well as belongings Play your journey home as well as staying with people you trust. The beat team hopes you all have a wonderful Christmas, stay safe and enjoy! If you do happen to see anything suspicious please report anything via 101 or online. Many thanks, NL59 Beat Team |
