Westcotes Weekly Update |
||
|
Dear residents,
Here’s a detailed summary of the work your local officers have been doing across Westcotes this week
---
Safer Business Action Week
This week, officers took part in Safer Business Action Week, engaging with local businesses, shop owners, and staff across the Westcotes and Narborough Road area. The focus was on improving business security, preventing theft, and building stronger working relationships with the retail community.
We provided crime prevention advice, discussed how to report incidents quickly and effectively, and encouraged businesses to join local partnership schemes. ---
Road Safety – “Fatal 4” Operation
As part of our ongoing road safety campaign, officers conducted proactive checks targeting the “Fatal 4” offences: speeding, mobile phone use, not wearing a seatbelt, and driving under the influence.
During the operation, 24 vehicles were stopped. The majority of drivers were found using mobile phones while driving. This is a serious offence that significantly increases the risk of collisions.
We also reminded delivery drivers—particularly those delivering food and parcels—that business insurance is required when driving for work purposes. Several vehicles were seized for not having the correct insurance in place.
---
Scene Preservation
PCSO Ushma has attended an incidents this week where scene preservation was required to secure vital evidence. By maintaining control of these locations, we ensure that investigations are carried out thoroughly and fairly, helping to bring offenders to justice.
---
CCTV Enquiries
We have reviewed numerous CCTV systems across the area to support ongoing investigations. These enquiries continue to play a crucial role in identifying suspects and linking offences across Westcotes and the wider Leicester area.
---
High Priority Patrols
Officers have maintained high-visibility patrols across identified priority areas based on recent reports and intelligence. These patrols target locations affected by issues such as anti-social behaviour, drug activity, and vehicle-related crime.
Community engagement remains at the heart of our work—officers have been speaking with residents, shopkeepers, and local partners while on patrol to offer advice and gather information.
---
Operation Shield – ASB Patrols on Bath Lane
As part of Operation Shield, officers carried out focused anti-social behaviour (ASB) patrols on Bath Lane. The team addressed ongoing nuisance behaviour.
---
Arrests & Ongoing Investigations
A male who had previously left the country after committing offences was arrested upon his return to the UK.
Enquiries are continuing into an incident where an Uber driver was threatened with a weapon. The investigation remains active and we thank the public for their assistance so far.
A property found to be operating as an unlicensed HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) was cleared and made safe.
Officers served a probation order on a property that had been used for cannabis cultivation, preventing further misuse.
We rely on your information to make a difference. If you see something suspicious, or have concerns about crime or nuisance behaviour in your area, please contact us via: 101 (non-emergency) Report online Always call 999 in an emergency.
