Burbage Police Newsletter And Update. Theft from Vehicles, Verbal Abuse, and Patrols.
Hello Resident,
We hope you are well. Here is a quick update and the monthly newsletter. As documented on our weekly updates, Burbage has been hit for residential burglaries over the last few weeks (mainly half term and Halloween). We are completing work in the area regarding CCTV, Door to door, patrols and victim support. PLEASE ensure your property looks occupied and do not leave cash or jewellery lying about.
There are several reports coming in of theft from motor vehicles. It seems likely the vehicles targeted were left unlocked at this point, but we are continuing to investigate this. Items such as jewellery and cash have been taken. Areas affected include Sketchley Road, Pennant Road, Briarmead and Norfolk Close. It appears at this stage, these incidents occurred in the early hours of Sunday 02/11/2025 (between 00:00-03:00). If you live around any of these areas and have CCTV of a suspect, please pop me an email to darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
We have been completing patrols over recent evenings/late evening around all areas of Burbage, including those recently targeted for burglary and theft from vehicle.
We have also had to visit Burbage Infants and Juniors area today due to some verbal abuse the lollipop lady received when telling a motorist they cannot park on the Zig Zags outside the school. We have completed work to address this, but please remember that the work we do, and the lollipop lady/men do, is to try and keep the roads safe, especially for children and parents attending local schools. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and we ask that motorists take a deep breath and think about their actions and impact on others in the community.
A big thank you to those that attended the Emma Shaw Christmas indoor market on Sunday. It was a very busy day and we spoke to lots of residents around local concerns, we also supported with lots of crime reduction items. As always, a pleasure to see you.
Burbage Police Newsletter November 2025
Issue: Autumn Update November 2025
Sgt James Cross and PCSO Darren Stretton
Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Burbage. Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and prioritised the following: Below are our new priorities which we will be actioning this month. Below are our new priorities for the next few months.
Priority 1: Burglary
You Said – Burglaries of homes, sheds and other outbuildings continue to be a concern in the area and as the darker nights approach house break ins have notoriously increased due to the signs that people are not home and the opportunities for offenders to be less disturbed with the cover of darkness. Items such as jewellery, cash, bank cards are often targeted. Back windows and conservatory doors will be weak points which criminals will target to enter property.
Priority 2: Vehicle Crime
You Said – Being the victim of a vehicle crime is a concern for local residents, and with the approach of Christmas leading to the likelihood of more valuables being in cars the opportunity for offenders to take advantage of this is high. The darker nights often sees an increase in theft from vehicles which will include items such as bank cards, tools, bags and cash. Motorbikes could also be targeted over the coming months.
Priority 3: Road Safety
You Said – Road safety is consistently raised as a concern around the village and with the colder, wetter months approaching and the morning and evenings being darker more people tend to use a car to take their children to school. The increase in vehicles leads to issues with parking and vehicles being left in dangerous/illegal positions.
#WeDid - What we are doing
Burglary - We have suffered several residential burglaries during October, most of these were during the October half term when people were on holiday and on the 31st (Halloween). There were multiple locations all over the area. Smashing the patio door or entrance through side doors where jewellery has been targeted. We have been completing over night patrols, completing door to door, CCTV checks and supporting residents and victims with crime reduction items. We continue to promote crime reduction items and raise awareness around keeping properties secure and hiding valuable items away. Properties that look empty are being targeted. Please use light timers, window alarms and fence cactus spikes. Please ensure you call 999 immediately if you see a crime in progress.
Anti-social Behaviour – We have dealt with isolated incidents of anti-social behaviour which occurred mainly during the half term break. Actions taken included home visits, phone calls to parents and engaging with residents affected. Local parks remain good and ongoing patrols being completed as advertised on our weekly updates. Stop checks completed in parks over night. Visits completed to primary schools where we have discussed anti-social behaviour in the run up to Halloween, and we have visited local shops to request they not sell eggs/flour to groups of youths around Halloween due to previous issues where cars and properties are affected by bad behaviour.
Vehicle Crime - Several attempt vehicle thefts of high value and high performance vehicles at locations such as Sketchley Road. Some of the residential burglary may link in to vehicle crime but thankfully these other attempts were unsuccessful. We have completed late night patrols where stop checks have been completed. We have supported many residents with RFID car wallets and window alarms. Similar to our advice around burglary, please ensure it looks like someone is in your property, consider steering locks and driveway bollards, as this type of criminal activity may continue throughout the darker nights.
