Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Good Morning, and I hope you are well! Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages from the week starting 01/09: What have the neighbourhood team been doing? This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area. Our Priorities You told us that anti-social behaviour (ASB) is a concern in your community, particularly involving the use of quad bikes and groups of rowdy youths gathering in parks and recreational areas. In response, targeted patrols have been conducted in Thorpebury in the Limes to address issues related to off-road biking. Throughout the month, regular high-visibility patrols have also been carried out at key ASB hotspots including Thurmaston Retail Park, Bridge Park Plaza, Checkland Road, Colby Drive, Tesco, Thurmaston Memorial Hall, and Syston Snooker Club. These proactive measures aim to deter anti-social behaviour, reassure the public, and gather intelligence to support ongoing enforcement activity. The community have stated that speeding and parking issues are a concern at various locations throughout the Charnwood East area. In response, the Speed & Safety Enforcement Van has been deployed to key routes including the A607 Newark Road in Thurmaston and Melton Road in Rearsby to monitor and deter speeding.Additionally, a Fatal 4 operation was conducted near Roundhill School in Thurmaston, where 14 vehicles were stopped. The drivers were reported for offences such as using a mobile phone while driving or failing to wear a seatbelt. These enforcement activities aim to improve road safety and address the concerns raised by local residents. And finally …….. Retail theft has been identified as a growing concern within the beat, with several stores being repeatedly targeted. Patrols have continued at locations highlighted as being targeted for theft from stores. The team in response have liaised directly with stores to strengthen communication and improve incident reporting. We are working closely with local retailers and investigating officers to gather intelligence and build a clearer picture of the individuals involved. Our efforts remain focused on identifying offenders and supporting businesses in preventing further incidents through proactive engagement and targeted patrols Upcoming Neighbourhood Consultations 16th October – Costco in Thurmaston from 11:00 – 12:00 17th October – Syston town square from 10:00 – 11:00 Neighbourhood consultations are a good opportunity to discuss your neighbourhood concerns and meet your local policing team. Please come along and speak to us. I hope you all have a lovely week, have fun and keep safe! Kind Regards, Beat 61 Neighbourhood Team
