weekly update

Dear Neighbourhood Link Member,

Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well!

Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages.

What have the neighbourhood team been doing?

  • High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas
  • On 22/07, PCSO 6024 attended the Syston Parish council meeting, where they discussed community issues.
  • On 23/07, the beat team conducted speed checks on Fosse way in Syston, and those caught exceeding the speed limit have faced appropriate consequences.
  • On 27/07, PCSO 6098 conducted a beat engagement at Syston Town square, where they engaged with many local residents in relation to their inquiries and concerns.
  • The local beat team have been actively patrolling the unoccupied building located on Bridge park road in Thurmaston. As a community, its essential to keep our youth safe. We encourage parents and guardians to talk to their children about the risks of entering abandoned properties.
  • The beat team continue to conduct foot patrols around the Thorpebury in the Limes, Thurmaston due to an increase in ASB.
  •  As the weather gets warmer, we see an increase in ASB especially involving motorbikes, the beat team are aware of these issues and there is CCTV inquiries and patrols taking place to identity suspects so they can be dealt with.

This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area.

     Our Priorities

You have told us that anti-social behaviour (ASB) is a concern in your community, particularly involving the use of quad bikes and groups of rowdy youths gathering in parks and recreational areas. In response, patrols have been conducted in the Thorpebury Estate to address reports of off-road bikes, and on Checkland Road in relation to general ASB and the use of quad bikes. Officers are also carrying out enquiries and patrols at Thurmaston Shopping Centre following reports of youths causing ASB, with investigations ongoing to identify those involved. Bridge Plaza Park has been patrolled after reports of youths entering an abandoned building, and enquiries are continuing. A patch walk has also been conducted in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council around Offranville Close, Thurmaston, following reports of unsociable drinking and behaviour. In addition, regular patrols are being maintained at Donkey Park and Central Park to provide reassurance and deter further incidents.

Speeding and parking issues have been raised as ongoing concerns by residents across several areas in Charnwood East. In response, a speed operation was carried out on Fosse Way in Syston, and patrols were conducted around Wreake Valley Academy during the end-of-school period to address parking and traffic concerns. As part of these efforts, a vehicle left at a location associated with reported parking issues was recovered after being found to have no insurance.

    And finally ……..

Retail theft has been identified as a growing concern within the beat, with several stores being repeatedly targeted. In response, officers have supported investigations by taking statements and collecting CCTV evidence. We have also liaised with local businesses to strengthen working relationships and improve outcomes when offences occur. Regular patrols have been carried out at key locations, including Thurmaston Retail Park, Tesco in Syston, and Branstons Services, to provide reassurance and deter further incidents.
