weekly update

Dear Neighbourhood Link Member,

Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well!

Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages.

What have the neighbourhood team been doing?

  • High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas
  • Additional patrols have also been conducted in Central Park, Syston, as part of our wider efforts to maintain community safety.
  • On 01/07, PCSO 6024 conducted a beat engagement at Syston Town square, where they engaged with many local residents in relation to their inquiries and concerns.
  • PCSO 6024 and 6938 conducted a beat surgery at Thurmaston retail park with the AD- Van and a police volunteer. The AD – Van carries key crime prevention messages and will be popping up across the borough in the future on key dates.
  • The beat team continue to conduct foot patrols around the Thorpebury in the Limes, Thurmaston due to an increase in ASB.
  •  As the weather gets warmer, we see an increase in ASB especially involving motorbikes, the beat team are aware of these issues and there is CCTV inquiries and patrols taking place to identity suspects so they can be dealt with.

This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area.

     Our Priorities

You have told us that anti-social behaviour (ASB) is a concern in your community, particularly involving the use of quad bikes and groups of rowdy youths gathering in parks and recreational areas. In response, we are increasing patrols in identified hotspots to deter this behaviour and provide reassurance to the public. We are also actively gathering intelligence to identify those responsible and take appropriate action.

Speeding and parking issues have been raised as ongoing concerns by residents across several areas in Charnwood East. Road safety remains a key concern raised by members of our community, particularly in relation to speeding and parking near schools. In response, we recently conducted a speed enforcement operation on Seagrave Road in Thrussington, targeting areas identified through community feedback and local intelligence. Static patrols have also been deployed at a location raised near the traffic lights to monitor driver behaviour and provide a visible deterrent. Further speed operations are planned, and work will continue to address the issues highlighted as a concern.

    And finally ……..

Retail theft has been identified as a growing concern within the beat, with several stores being repeatedly targeted. In response, we are working with local retailers and the investigating officers to gather intelligence and build a clearer picture of the individuals involved. Our efforts are focused on identifying offenders and supporting businesses in preventing further incidents.
