Police: PC Spruce's update on today's shift

Good evening Rutland North,

Well, it’s been another scorcher of a day again! ♨️☀️  (For those of you who are still interested, yes, I am still waiting for a response back on my suggestion for some uniformed shorts 🩳 …)

All jokes aside though - it’s been a very demanding and challenging few days for all the front-line staff (and non-front line 🕵 ), this time of year is always busy for us 🚓

I attended a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) on an emergency response this afternoon on my late shift 🚨 Fortunately, those involved walked away with only minor injuries caused by the airbags and seatbelt, which is why it’s so important you wear it! Without it, this undoubtedly would have much worse ‼️

We are seeing a bit of an increase in RTCs at the moment ⚠️ Please double check the junctions 🏍️ THINK BIKE 🏍️ look for hazards and anticipate what might be further up the road ahead 🛣️ around the next bend - cyclists 🚴  horses 🏇  pedestrians 🚶 tractors 🚜  slow moving vehicles 🚚  and... take it easy… remember it’s not a race 🏎️🚫  and you won’t get to your destination more than a few seconds faster anyway, it’s never worth it ❌

Demand on the radio took a welcome short break this evening with just enough time for me, as the local neighbourhood beat officer, to attend Greetham’s monthly classic car and motorcycle gathering for a short while 🚙 🚗 🏍️

A brilliant community engagement opportunity that I have been intending on trying to get to since taking over the beat in May last year, unfortunately I couldn’t get there until toward the end when most had already left. But, it was absolutely fantastic to still see so many people, from the local community and further afield, sharing interests, swapping stories and just generally enjoying each other’s company and showing off their cool motors 🏎️ 🏍️

It’s a very well attended event, credit should definitely go to the organisers who keep it running smoothly 👏  and it's for a good cause, with money raised going to the air ambulance. Thank you to the many, many people who spoke to me, it was good to see and chat with you 🤝 🚔

The weather forecast looks like it’s sure to stay hot for a good while yet, so please enjoy it safely - keep hydrated (water!), don’t forget your hat, sunglasses, sun cream, cool yourself down in the shade/inside whenever you can, and please look after our young and old ones, as well as our furry four legged ones  ☀️

Take care,

PC 1049 Jake Spruce 👮🏻‍♂️
