Inspector Perry Update

Neighbourhood Police Commander - Inspector Liz Perry

Introduction

Some great proactive work has taken place this month…

Officers located a stolen car in Fleckney and our proactive team have been developing intelligence around local drug dealing. If you would like to report any information on drug dealing you can do some anonymously via CrimeStoppers: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information

The team also located a large cannabis grow in its early stages at an address in Oadby.

Eagle eyed officers spotted two males acting suspiciously in Wigston and upon engaging with them formulated the grounds to conduct a stop search whereby a knife was recovered and the male charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Operation Sceptre is a national knife crime campaign focusing efforts over a week through a combination of enforcement, prevention, and community engagement. We conducted the following activities within our district, all of which are detailed on our social media pages:

  • Weapon sweeps in local parks and public spaces to find hidden knives.

  • Targeted patrols and stop-and-search in knife crime hotspots.

  • Knife surrender bins for anonymous disposal of weapons

  • School and community engagement to educate youth and deter knife carrying under the Lives not Knives campaign.

  • Retailer visits to ensure compliance with knife sale laws.

  • Sgt Pete Jelbert was honoured to kindly represent me at the flag raising ceremony in Market Harborough to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

I was also really excited to support the first ‘Keep in Touch’ Day for 2025 for all members of the Leicestershire Police on any form of parental leave. Organised by the Women’s Inclusive Network (WIN) Keep in Touch days help officers and staff stay in contact with the force while on leave, to help make the transition back to work after parental leave as straightforward as possible.

Much of the work carried out to keep residents of the district safe happens behind the scenes and often on a screen, so you may not always see the officers daily, but it does not mean they’re not working hard to keep you safe.

    Stay safe and connected!

    Inspector Liz Perry

#WeDid - What we are doing

Road Safety E-Bikes and E-Scooters – We continue to receive complaints about e-bikes and e-scooters across the district. This month the team have conducted an operation to clamp down on their illegal use. Two bikes were seized that were illegal and sent for destruction, as they had been adapted to travel over the prescribed limit of 15.5mph and neither had chains linking the pedals to the back wheels. Both drivers will also be dealt with for road traffic document offences. Please continue to tell us about the illegal use of e-bikes.

Youth Engagement Through work with our local independent advisory group, it was felt by our communities that school engagement work is crucial in fostering trust in the police and educating youth about safety and legal matters. As such, our best teams have been busy visiting schools, engaging with our young people this month under Operation Sceptre and building positive relationships.

Anti-social Behaviour Locations Officers have targeted their patrols in areas across the districts to maintain a visible presence, deter potential criminal activity, and foster the community relationships we have been busy building. Hundreds of hours have been spent by our PCSOs on foot or in vehicles patrolling key areas for speeding and ASB, which are most identified as a priority for residents

  • Gareth Varnham arrested and charged with shop theft offences and a breach of court bail.
