Birstall & Wanlip - May 2025 Newsletter
Welcome to the monthly update for the residents and communities of the Birstall & Wanlip Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
#YouSaidWeDid - What matters to you & what we are doing
Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Concerns
The community has expressed concerns regarding anti-social behaviour (ASB) within the Birstall ward. Whilst there has been a noticeable decrease in reported incidents at Birstall North Services, we have maintained a strong presence in this area through regular patrols. Additionally, high visibility patrols have been conducted at School Lane playing fields and the village centre to deter ASB and provide reassurance to the community.
As the warmer weather approaches, we will be enhancing our patrols to address potential increases in ASB. Through our ongoing patrols, it has been identified that Meadow Lane and Sibson Road car park are also attracting ASB perpetrators, particularly those using nitrous oxide. We are committed to addressing these issues and ensuring these areas remain safe for all residents.
Road Safety and Obstructions
Road safety and obstructions have been highlighted as significant concerns by the community, particularly around primary schools in various locations throughout Birstall. In response, the community speed watch initiative is making progress with the invaluable assistance of local volunteers. Placards are being strategically placed in identified areas of concern to raise awareness and encourage safer driving practices.
Additionally, the local policing team is working closely with local schools to promote road safety. Schools are being encouraged to send out advice to parents and guardians, and we will be offering literature and signage to place at key locations to further promote road safety.
Residential Burglaries and Vehicle Crime
A recent increase in residential burglaries and vehicle crime within Birstall and the surrounding villages has prompted the creation of a new priority. Our patrols within the beat have been intensified and are now supported by traffic and firearms units, as well as the Charnwood neighbourhood proactive team. The team is committed to adjusting their patrol plans to include the affected areas, providing reassurance, and enhancing the security of our community.
Throughout the area, we have seen a reduction in burglaries overall, thanks to the combined efforts of both the police and the community. This positive trend is a testament to our collaborative approach to crime prevention and community safety.
We appreciate the community's ongoing support and cooperation as we work together to address these concerns and improve the safety and quality of life in Birstall.
