Dear Resident,
E-bikes are becoming a very popular way of getting around nowadays. However did you know they still have legal requirements?
EPAC regulations state e-bikes must: 1. Be pedal assisted and not operated by a throttle 2. Be fitted with a plate where you can easily read the manufacturer's name, motor power output and battery power 3. Have a max motor output of 250w with a top power-assisted speed of 15.5mph
If an e-bike does not conform to these regulations, it is an electrically powered moped/motorcycle and therefore must be ridden in line with the same laws you would have to follow if you rode a petrol powered moped/motorcycle (i.e. have a number plate, rider must wear a helmet and have the appropriate licence etc).
If your e-bike is found to be illegal it can be seized by Leicestershire Police without warning.
Many thanks
