Here is a bit of an update as to what we've done over the Christmas season;
CBOs - this financial year the Leicester City Central policing area have applied for and been granted six Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) by the courts. In addition to the six granted, officers have successfully applied for and been granted one CBO variation. Seven more applications from the police are currently going through court along with one further variation. CBOs help manage offender behaviour and variations to the original orders tighten restrictions on offenders.
Positive outcomes - in the last 3 months the Leicester City Central policing area the officers have secured 173 charges for shop lifting. In addition to the 173 matters sent before the courts, 28 out-of-court disposals have dealt with shoplifters while avoiding the time and cost of court proceedings.
Christmas shopping patrol update – Over the festive period Central Leicester Policing Area committed to providing an additional 335 hours of high visibility patrols within Leicester City Centre particularly around retail outlets (including both shopping centres) to support our retail establishments to enhance the security provision within the city centre that most retailers provide daily. In addition to high visibility patrols, officers dealt with 4 suspects in custody relating to retail theft, provided crime prevention advise to retailers, arrested a person in relation to a breach of criminal behaviour order, attended and dealt with ASB incidents reported by retailers, identified and entered four youths onto the ASB incremental approach. A similar approach will be taken in 2025 and we look forward to working jointly with retailers during this busy period.
A good news story - a prolific shoplifter causing issues in the City Centre has been charged and remanded with regard to multiple shoplifting offences. During the investigation process he has admitted he needs help and support. PC Karl from the City Centre beat team has drafted a CBO which is going through the court system. The defendant himself is in support of that CBO as he knows it will bring the restrictions he needs to manage his behaviour.
Kind regards,
Your City Centre Beat Team | ||||
