FROSTY CARS

Market Harborough Police would like to remind residents NOT to....Leave The Engine Running to Defrost Their Cars when they are not with it....

Police have received several reports of cars being stolen by opportunist thieves while the owner was inside their house finishing off a cup of tea or gathering the children together for The School run.

If you find yourself waking up to a frost covered car, you will most likely be tempted to run your car engine to defrost the windows and warm it up while you pop back into the house. However, this is an inefficient way of defrosting the car as it is bad for the environment and what many people are not aware of is that leaving your vehicle engine running while it’s not on the road or moving is considered a traffic offence.

REMEMBER....It is also an opportunity for car thieves. You should never leave the keys in the engine unattended – and if your vehicle is stolen in these circumstances, it maybe that the insurance company will not pay out for the loss.
