Oadby Newsletter - April 2024

Oadby Newsletter – April 2024

We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and will prioritise the following in April 2024.

Priority 1: Burglary

You Said: You told us that you were concerned about burglaries within the Oadby area.

What we are going to do: Officers are conducting regular patrols of the areas where offences have occurred, these patrols are reducing the number of burglaries. We will continue to do this going forward. Where CCTV is available, this will provide valuable intelligence on times and when offences are happening and possible vehicles involved, to assist in our patrol strategy. Since our last update we have a seen a significant decrease of burglaries being reported.

Priority 2: Road Safety

You said: You have told us that Road Safety is a priority, this includes things like Speeding, Insurance, MOT and driving offences.

What we are going to do: Police volunteers have conducted vehicle speed checks at identified locations. There are planned Fatal 4 operations coming up in the Borough which targets motorist’s speeding, not wearing seatbelts, using mobile phones and drink/drug driving. Local officers have also received reports of identified vehicles being driven without valid insurance, MOT and tax, these vehicles were located and seized.

Priority 3: Anti-Social Behaviour and Drug Taking

You Said: You have told us that Anti-Social behaviour causes you concern. This can be things like excessive noise, smoking drugs and more. We will be working with partners to ensure we can tackle these issues and reduce their occurrences.

What we are going to do: Your local police beat team and response officers have regularly patrolled key locations as reported by yourselves with regards to anti-social behaviour and drug related incidents. Officers continue to stop check persons and vehicles who are involved in drugs. Information related to anti-social behaviour and drugs has been provided by the community, this will assist us in identifying individuals involved.

Good Work

Well done to the Harborough and Wigston neighbourhood proactive team who acted on intelligence relating to a property in Oadby. Officers knocked on the door and were greeted by a male, who was swiftly arrested for the cultivation of cannabis. This male has since been remanded into custody awaiting a sentencing.

Events and engagements attended

Beat Bus

On the Wednesday 6th March 2024 the beat bus was utilised at various locations on the day. The recruitment van is a force wide resource which allows local neighbourhood policing teams to visit locations quickly and conveniently. One of the places for Oadby was Leicester University Halls of Resident in Oadby, this was a great opportunity for students and staff to discuss policing matters.

Week of Business Crime Action

From Monday 25th March to Sunday 31st March 2024 neighbourhood policing teams across the various beats conducted a week of Business Crime Action. Police engaged with retailers and communities to raise awareness of retail business crime in the area. It was a great opportunity to increase engagement with retail businesses and identify prolific shoplifting offenders. We continue work with our retailers and concentrate on the issues important to them. In addition, we have created a Retail Investigation pack for retailers, these were handed out when visiting locations.

Spiking Awareness Campaign

Officers have attended pubs across South Wigston, Oadby and Wigston as part of our Spiking Awareness Week. Anti-spiking covers were given to prevent drinks from being spiked. If you have been spiked or suspect that someone's been spiked them, please contact us, this can be spiking with alcohol or drug.
