March Newsletter

Dear Resident,

Please read on to find out what your local policing team have been doing in March 2024:

We have listened to you and the concerns that you raised this month for your area. The priorities as we understand, are as follows:

Priority 1: Dog Fouling

You Said: You told us that dog fouling is an issue within the local area.

We did: We have been in contact with the council to put some more signs up within the local area to remind those who are guilty of leaving it, to pick it up and the sanctions if they do not. Over the lighter evenings, when we conduct our park patrols, we will be keeping a cautious eye out for those who fall guilty of not cleaning up after their fluffy friend.

Priority 2: Anti-Social Behaviour

You Said: You have said to us that the anti-social behaviour within your area is causing a concern. This includes acts of drug taking, excessive noise, parties and many more. We are and continue to work with our partner agencies to reduce occurrences and take action on those who are causing an issue. Many of our local shops experienced this over the school breaks with children within the shops.

We did: Anti-social behaviour (ASB) takes many forms. From aggressive, noisy, or abusive behaviour to neighbourhood disturbances involving drugs or animals. We have been working in conjunction with partner agencies such as local councils, housing, and wellbeing services to tackle and prevent ASB using a problem-solving approach to achieve the best results.

We have also continued to conduct patrols and stop check any persons or vehicles involved in drugs. We encourage you to report any information related to anti-social behaviour. We have visited some shops across Wigston where the reports were heightened and provided some advice in relation to how to report anti-social behaviour.

Priority 3: Road traffic Issues

You Said: You told us that issues in relation to parking, speeding and cars without MOT and TAX in the local area is important to you.

We did: We have seized vehicles this month and conducted many investigations in relation to those vehicles that do not have insurance, as well as vehicles that have been abandoned in the local area. We continue to do this. If there are any suspicious vehicles continue to report to us. In relation to parking, if a vehicle is parking over your driveway and obstructing you from accessing the highway then we can act within reason to the situation in relation to this. In regards to school parking, we have conducted some patrols during school times, but this is an action of traffic wardens and the council as we have no powers. However, when we can head down to the schools we will do as part of our preventative patrols.

Please complete this short survey to update our Beat Priorities so that we can help you by improving our area for next month:

Beat Surgeries:

PCSO 6158 has been to see many of you this month. One of the visits was in Menphys Café on 15th March, were we saw many of you to discuss local issues and offer some advice. Another surgery was completed at Willow Park early evening now that the evenings are getting lighter, this was a great opportunity to meet with many of you about your local priorities… and meet some fluffy friends.

We also had the Beat Bus out in March, so that we could meet many of you there. We parked up on Bell street on the 6th March and had the opportunity to share crime prevention tips and meet many of you from around the local area, as well as visit some of the stores and engage with them.

Thank you to all of those that made the effort to come and see us. Look out on our social media platforms for our upcoming surgeries!

We also would like to make you aware that we have begun our patrols around the Wigston cemetery again but we still encourage anyone to report any problems that they have.

SPIKING AWARENESS WEEK:

This month your local officers have been visiting pubs across the local area and provided spiking prevention equipment that members of staff being the bar can give out, so please ask in you local pubs to see if they have any of these! Amongst doing this we have spoken to members of the public and staff at the pubs about the ways in which they can prevent being spiked, as well as how to report if you suspect that somebody has been spiked. Some of this advice included:

❗Avoid leaving your drink unattended.

❗ If you think your drink may have been spiked… trust your instincts and report immediately.

❗ Do NOT accept drinks from strangers, no matter how genuine they seem.

☎️ Contact us if you suspect that someone has been spiked.

Business crime week of action:

This month we have also been attending our local shops in South Wigston as to how they can report crime to us, by giving out a Step-by-Step guide for them to follow. This pack also contains the way in which we investigate their crimes when they report to us. We hope that this will be particularly helpful, especially during the lighter evenings and school holidays coming up, we hope that with patrols in the area, it will better aid the prevention of anti-social behaviour from youths. Furthermore, we have helped with a guide of how they can report thefts to us.

Local Events

There is an event on the 13th April at the Wigston Tennis Club 10:00-16:00. There will be free sessions for you to try out amongst some food and refreshments. Please read the below poster and feel free to join us there!

On the 27th March, your beat team also attended a community event at All Saints Primary School in Wigston during the school holidays to meet with many of the residents and give the children the opportunity to look at the police cars and try on the equipment and sitting in the police car… for good reason. We hope that with this and talking to us, many will consider a career in the police one day!
