Have you secured your Vehicle

Alert message sent 01/08/2019 14:35:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members of South Leicester

Hello, hope all is well. Recently your local team attended a call from a member of public who found tools on the street in the Knighton area. On attending Police seized the found tools and made enquiries of recent theft from motor vehicles and phoned various victims. The found tools have been returned to the owner however as per the picture attached unfortunately the boxes were empty containing expensive power tools but majority of the tools were in there.

Please could I urge members who have work vans to secure their vans. I know it is not practical to empty your van during the night, but I do want to encourage members to fit a good alarm system and get some additional dead locks onto the sliding doors. It is good practice to reverse your vehicle to an object or near a wall to prevent it from being open. However sliding doors in vans appear to be the area criminals target. Some users have also chained the boxes of their power tools inside the van to stop criminals making a quick getaway.

If you drive a vehicle that has Keyless entry then please ensure you purchase a signal blocker pouch. You can purchase these from most local auto shops in the area. It is worth to test the pouch near your vehicle to see if the car detects the key or not. Some pouches have a double pocket so ensure you insert your keys into the correct sleeve.

Please see attached picture of the found tools. The criminals stolen the tools from the van moments later and ditched them in a nearby street. If you have been a victim of crime please report this immediately as without the report we would not have been able to returned the remaining found tools.

Stay Safe - "If You See Something.....Say Something and Report It".
