In case you were wondering what was happening on Sonning Way Eyres Monsell

Alert message sent 01/08/2018 19:29:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members of South Leicester.

Police are in attendance at an address in Sonning Way, Eyres Monsell, following a man refusing to let staff from Western Power and Leicester City Council into the address.

They were attending to make the property safe following reports that electricity wires were exposed inside the property. The force was called at 11.10am and have been on the scene since this morning (Wednesday).

The man is inside the property and talking to officers on the ground. In the interest of officer and public safety, given the man inside the house was refusing to cooperate, armed officers were deployed to the property.

About 60 homes in the vicinity of Sonning Way have had their electricity turned off while this incident in on going and a crisis centre for those without electricity has been set up in the Eyres Monsell Community Centre in Hillsborough Road. Power engineers will remain on scene in order to restore power as soon as possible.

Chief Inspector Andy Parkes, who’s overseeing the incident this evening, said: “There is a large police presence in Sonning Way, and I would ask that people who do not need to come to the area, stay away.

“We are working to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

“Anyone who is affected by the electricity supply being disrupted is asked to visit the crisis centre where help will be given.”
