NL63 Weekly Update Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in the NL63 neighbourhood. Crime Prevention Advice As the festive season approaches, the force notice an increase in drivers under the influence. We appreciate Christmas is a time of celebration, however, there are some simple, actionable steps you can take to avoid issues like this at Christmas time. Drink driving convictions aren't always a case of drinking a large amount of alcohol and then driving- drink driving can also be a result of still being over the legal limit the morning or even afternoon after festivities.Don't plan to drive to and from any Christmas parties/relatives houses if avoidable. Plans change, you decide to have one or two, and drinks can be spiked or you may pick up the wrong glass. If you drink a significant amount, think about the morning after. If you have had a lot to drink, you are more than likely still over the legal limit the morning after, and possibly into the afternoon. If you are going to any parties/celebrations and plan to drink, decide on a designated driver in your group to stay alcohol-free.If you have driven to an event and decide to drink, take the safe option. Book a taxi, and leave your car for the night. It is not worth the consequences and the danger to your safety. What have the neighbourhood team been doing? The neighbourhood beat team have been busy recently. A joint operation with the local council has resulted in a partial closure order being secured on an address in Shelthorpe in relation to drug activity. The team have also heard your concerns regarding the anti-social behaviour (ASB) of vehicles driving inappropriately around Tesco, Park road. As a result of this, the beat team have ensured to put extra patrols in place throughout the evening/night, and have engaged with staff to keep updated with any details surrounding this issue. Theft also remains a beat priority for us, for which we have continued to conduct high visibility patrols around One Stop and Tesco to deter further incidents, the beat team have seen a decrease in theft in the past month, and hope to see this continue to decline. This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, visible patrolling including ‘hot spot’ areas, and engaging with residents and businesses in the area.
