Birstall & Wanlip Round Up |

|
Welcome to the latest (and somewhat overdue) Birstall & Wanlip Round Up, the absence of which is closely tied to re-prioritising of responsibilities and operational capability, but less about corporate jargon and more about what the Beat Team have been up to in as many weeks! We now have a new team in place, spearheaded by new Police Sergeant 4017 John Merola who has joined longstanding PCSO 6174 Jon Harrison and PC 1947 David Bennett.
Residential Burglaries
Over the past six months, there has been a rise in burglary incidents in the Riverside Ward area, with 15 reported cases. Two were domestic burglaries where the suspect was known to the victim. Investigations are ongoing, and proactive measures have been implemented, including increased patrols and community engagement. Three individuals have been charged, one with nine offences and remanded, resulting in a reduction in reported burglaries.
It must be additionally noted that investigations continue with the most recent Burglary related to an address on Worcester Avenue, which has caused a great deal of concern for both residents and the Police, this investigation remains front and centre for the Local Policing Team.
Antisocial Behaviour
Work continues at Birstall North Services - a recurrent location for ASB that ebbs and flows between school time and holidays and is invariably tied to weather conditions and availability of youth distractions. A core group of youths associated with this location have been identified and the Beat Team continue to work alongside onsite management, associated agency, Cedars Academy (as appropriate) and will be looking adopt robust action with incremental approach. I must add that the aim is not to disband and bar the usage of the site for Birstall Youth but a degree of appropriate disruption is needed to monitor behaviour and allow this so called ‘dangerous age’ demographic to given more opportunity to take responsibility for their actions. Such skills will serve them better later in life. Alternatively, later life will involve further Police engagement the likes of which will negate the innocence of youth!
Community Concerns
In recent weeks, the community at large has become increasingly aware of a local resident causing much concern amongst adults and children, residents, educational facilities and all points in between. The community will invariably discuss this subject on social media platforms unregulated but it must be stressed that sensitivity be applied whilst the Local Authority, partner agencies and emergency services work through options managing this situation as it continues to develop. Concerned residents are encouraged to make overtures to the local beat team if they have any questions or queries they wish to discuss regarding this subject otherwise please report either via 999 (for emergencies) or 101 (for non-emergencies) or online at www.leics.police.uk
